A very shortsighted approach to relationship, let alone trust and permission?

katerpiddah blogged on No Nonprofit Spam which has this message for nonprofits “Your mission is noble, and your intentions are honorable. But if you subscribed us to your organization’s bulk email list without our permission, then you are sending us spam

The blogger relegated ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) to their Hall of Shame for selling their details to other nonprofits to badger them for donations.

RT @deborah909: So, have any of you ever traced back your junk mail to the nonprofit that originally sold your address? http://ow.ly/4zRLB #nononprofitspam

Hello! I just want to add a clarification: UCLA, the University of California at Los Angeles, is not in our Hall of Shame. We have no complaint against UCLA at all.

You may be thinking of an article on our blog (by an author who chooses to go by the pseudonym “Katerpiddah”) in which the author describes the process of ascertaining that the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) sold her address to other fundraising organizations.

I think that it’s important to note that UCLA is not ACLU, and that I am not the author of that article.

I hope that this clarification is helpful!

    Best regards from Deborah

Thanks for the clarification Deborah. Noted.

Isn’t it an unusual strategy for the American Civil Liberties Union to be so cavalier with personal data. They must have a different definition of “civil liberty” than I am used to in Australia.
